Staying on the Island
If you are looking for a clean beach getaway with great views in Krabi, then perhaps you can stay here for a couple of days. Railay beach is essentially an island. To reach out the other tourists destinations, you will have to take sea transport to Ao Nang beach area, which is the mainland. Each single trip cost 100 baht and takes about 20 minutes excluding the time spent waiting for other tourists to get on board. Each longtail boat accommodates about 6-8 people and they will wait for the boat is full before taking off. Some resorts provides free sea transfer to the mainland.
For others who might just want to visit the Railay island for a day, and other places in Krabi, then it might be a better idea to stay at Ao Nang area and purchase a 2-way longtail boat ticket (200 baht) to the Railay beach.
Important things to note
There are a number of jelly fishes reported at the Railay beach. If you are snorkeling, do keep an eye for these for they do sting. (see review here)
If you are going to Railay Beach for a day’s trip, be sure to check with the hotel or tour agents what are times for high tides and low tides. During high tides, there is practically no beach area for you to build your sandcastles or lay down. You will be stuck with the restaurants or bars.
A 2-way longtail boat ticket from Ao Nang to Railay beach costs 200 baht. A one way ticket cost from Ao Nang to Railay cost 100 baht. A return ticket normally cost 100 baht, but there are rumors suggesting that agents selling a return ticket as much as 800 baht. For assurance get a 2-way ticket.
